#3 USE THE NETWORKS!
Successful school- and sport sector cooperation can only be achieved if stakeholders from both sectors actively collaborate within an open, capable and effective network.
Relevance – Why is this requirement important?

Without the requirements of communication and trust, cooperation between stakeholders is hindered. A strong network leads to better communication, which intends to achieve clear goals and objectives. Therefore, the project has better chances to be successful.

Challenges – What are the typical challenges related to this requirement?

There is no clear definition of a good solid network and this will result in “a best guess” approach. Although, there is information on the effectiveness of a school-sport-coordinator. This person can help to accomplish a strong network. Of course, this example is especially the case for schools, because their workload and daily business seems to give already too much strain. Another challenge is provided by the frequent change of contact points. Finally, the sport coaches are not educated to form a network or to give aid in approaching schools in an attractive and effective way.

Strategies – What are potential measures or strategies you might consider to (better) fulfil this requirement?

Ensure and build up a durable relationship with a contact person in school environment. Furthermore, help sport clubs with standardized documents to support communication with schools. Additionally, organize meetings between sport clubs and schools.

This requirement is the key success factor for school and sport sector cooperation. As a consequence, it’s relevant and necessary to work on a local level together to build up a well working network.
